Low battery life irking mobile phone users may soon be a thing of the past, claims an engineering student from Srinagar, Kashmir.
Idrees-ul Haq, studying Bachelor of Engineering Electronics and Commutation at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Jammu, says that subscribers would be able to charge their mobile phones using solar energy, body heat and electro-mechanical energy, Kashmir Observer reported.
Recently, Haq presented a research paper on the topic during the just concluded Jammu and Kashmir Science Congress at Jammu University.
Hailing from Srinagar’s Lal Bazar locality, Haq says if the technology were adopted, people would need to charge their phones just once.
“I have been working on the concept of using solar power, body heat and mechanical energy to recharge cell phone batteries, which in itself is quite a new concept.
Though research is going on in the United States, not much work has been done here,” he said.
In this mechanism, Haq has used solar strips for tapping solar energy while thermo electrical transducers are used for converting heat from human body into electrical signals. Piezo electric material is used for utilizing mechanical energy, he added.
He said the technology could play a pivotal role in curbing the energy crisis and the device has a flexibility to be applied on all electronic gadgets ranging from laptops to TVs to other electronic devices.
Idrees is confident if he gets some sponsors, further research could be done.
“According to my observation it can be done easily by using the basic concept of science by making use of solar energy which is abundantly present all over earth, energy within human body, which is main component of human beings helping them to survive, and mechanical energy which is utilized while working on any type of cell phone,” he claims.
Elaborating, Haq said all for trapping solar energy; solar strips are used for trapping heat of human body and changing it into electrical signals and then thermo-electric transducers are used and for utilizing mechanical energy and Piezo-electric material is used which can deliver 5-5 V (DC) to the internal battery of cell phone.
